50 th Anniversary of Mizoram Police Raising Day Celebrated

Celebration function of 50th Anniversary (Golden Jubilee) of Mizoram Police Raising Day was held on 21st January, 2022 (Friday) at 12:00 noon at Vanapa Hall, Aizawl. Pu Zoramthanga, Hon’ble Chief Minister and Pu Lalchamliana, Hon’ble Home Minister attended the occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Pu John Neihlaia, IPS, IGP(Hqrs) presided the function in which the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour both delivered a speech, the DIG(NR) Pu Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, IPS concluded the function with vote of thanks. Chief Guest also unveiled 50th years of Mizoram Police Monument at PHQ, Khatla after the celebration programme at Vanapa Hall.

On 21st January, 1972, Mizo District under the state of Assam was elevated into a Union Territory. The erstwhile Assam Police under Mizo District was converted into Mizoram Police. The first Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mizoram, I.J. Verma, IPS took charge of the office of IGP on 21.01.1972. Hence 21st January, 1972 is officially adopted as the Mizoram Police Raising Day and 21st January, 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of Mizoram Police.

With the attainment of statehood by Mizoram on 20th February, 1987, Mizoram Police was upgraded and strengthened to become State Police Force. Since then, it has grown from strength to strength and has achieved numerous credits.

During a short span of 50 years, a large number of Mizoram police personnel have been awarded various medals and awards in recognition of their outstanding performance in the discharge of duties. Mizoram police have also achieved great heights in various sports disciplines and have bagged several medals even at the national and international levels. In the meantime, as many as 56 police personnel have sacrificed their lives while on duty in the service of the nation and have become ‘Martyr’ of the nation.

At present, there are 11 District Executive Forces, 18 Police Sub-divisions, 38 Police Stations, 3 Special Police Stations (Cyber Crime, Special Narcotic, All Women PS), 16 Police Outposts, 3 Armed Battalions, 5 India Reserve Battalions, 23 Battalion Border Outposts, 1 Police Training School and 5 other Supporting Units (MPRO, Security, Traffic, CID Crime and Special Branch) under Mizoram Police.
