In a remarkable instance of alacrity, presence of mind and quick follow up, Champhai Police arrested a habitual offender, who tried to rob ATM.
Acting on a call received from Command Centre, Axis Bank, Mumbai on June 29 @ 1:21AM, Champhai PS team immediately rushed to ATM Booth of Axis Bank located at Champhai Vengthlang near YMA office. On reaching the spot, the team found the ATM Vault forcibly opened, damaged and data cable cut off. After careful examination and analysis of CCTV footage, police team arrested one K.Malsawmtluanga (38) s/o K.Lalchhanhima of Keifangtlang within six hours and tools like ring wrench, sockets were recovered from his possession. On sustained interrogation, his involvement in other burglary cases registered under Champhai PS was revealed and one stolen tablet was also recovered from him today.
Further investigation is in progress. More recoveries are likely.
