Dt 8.10.2022 was a landmark occasion of Regional Meeting on ‘Drug Trafficking and National Security’ for the North Eastern States held today at Guwahati, Assam, chaired by Hon’ble Union Home Minister Sh Amit Shah and attended by Hon’ble CMs, CSs and DGsP of all the North Eastern States. In the meeting, a comprehensive analysis of the efforts made by the relevant stakeholders against drug menace was done, with a view to move forward with renewed energy and vigour. The meeting would be extremely helpful in curbing the menace of drug trafficking and its abuse in the region, wherein, inter-alia deliberation was carried out on the drugs supply/demand/harm reduction strategies, adopted by various states & agencies.
During this, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Guwahati Zonal Unit also organized a ‘mass drug disposal programme ’ at Fresh AIR incinerator complex at Panikheti area of Kamrup district and different locations of the North East States, witnessed lived by all the participants and inaugurated through video conferencing by the hon’ble Union Home Minister. Approx 40,000kg of drugs were destroyed.
In Mizoram, the drug disposal program was carried out at Trinity Hospital, Silaimual, Melthum and drugs such as heroine – 7.485 kgs, methamphetamine – 65.988 kgs, pseudoephedrine – 1156.616 kgs, Ganja – 50.982 kgs, Codeine – 39 bottles, Berry Can CD – 638 bottles, valued at ₹ 27,52,83,940/- (Rupees twenty seven crore, fifty two lakh, eighty three thousand, nine hundred forty) at Local Market and ₹2,40,42,63,940/- (Rupees two hundred forty crore, forty two lakh, sixty three thousand, nine hundred forty) in International Market were destroyed.
