As a part of ongoing activities in combating the drug menace, Mizoram Police organized “Walk for Drug Free Mizoram” on 01.06.2024 (Saturday) in Aizawl from Chanmari Kawn to AR Lammual Ground.
Pu Anil Shukla, IPS, DGP Mizoram, welcoming the participants stated that the event had been organized to strengthen our resolve and as a testament of our collective effort in the fight against drugs. The rally was flagged off by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma at 7:00am from Chanmari Kawn.
The “Walk for Drug Free Mizoram” concluded at AR Ground Lammual where a short function was held. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Guest Pu Lalduhoma highlighted the alarming rate of death among Mizo youth especially among the males, due to drug abuse. He once again reiterated the resolve of the State Government to combat the drug menace and stated that Core Committee on Ruihhlo Do has been re-constituted to take coordinated steps in the fight against drugs.
Pu K Sapdanga, Hon’ble Home Minister, Guest of Honour, also appealed to Government servants, Church organizations, NGOs, students and all members of the society to join hands against drugs. He pointed out that the entire society is suffuring due to a few people engaged in drug trafficking and with dedicated efforts by all concerned, the situation can be improved drastically
Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Hon’ble MoS, Excise & Narcotics Department, also the Guest of Honour, commending the effort towards organizing the event stated that with such kind of coordination and continuous effort, we will steadily move towards a Drug Free Mizoram. He also invited all the members of the Mizo society to work together in the fight against drugs.
The “Walk for Drug Free Mizoram” witnessed participation of over 1000 persons ranging from senior government functionaries of various departments, various law enforcement agencies, NGOs and students of colleges and schools.
Prizes were distributed by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on the occasion for the Painting Competition with the theme ‘Drugs Free Mizoram. Yes I Can’ held on 30.05.2024 (Thursday) at SP Aizawl Conference Hall. As many as 84 students (44 High School and 40 Higher Secondary Students) from 19 selected High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools had participated in the event:
