One habitual offender, Jeremia Lalthangtura (22) s/o James Lalzawmmawia of Zemabawk Berawlui veng was arrested on 13th December in connection with Aizawl PS case, wherein, he had cheated one Computer Store located at Zarkawt, Aizawl by buying eight Laptops , two Xerox machine and a Projector (worth ₹ 8,90,470 in total) using a bounced cheque. Further investigation and sustained interrogation revealed his involvement in several other cheating cases too, within Aizawl District since 2020 till date, involving more than ₹ 75 lakhs. He also checked in at ‘The Grand Hotel’, Chanmari on 26.11.22 and even hired their Conference Hall twice with total bill of ₹ 1,34,231). He paid the bills by using bounced cheque again, thus cheating them. A total of 5 cases under Bawngkawn PS and 3 cases under Aizawl PS have already been registered against him. He has been cheating people by using forged documents convincing them to trust him for loans, sometimes by buying expensive items using cheques of bank accounts having no balance and also by means of online marketing fraud, etc.
So far, 8 Laptop, 2 Xerox machine, 1 Projector and 8 Wireless Mouse have been recovered. Further investigation/ interrogation is in progress. More recovery is expected.
