On the afternoon of 29.4.2023, the Valedictory Function for the Hackathon (Hackventure) jointly organised by Mizoram Police and the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Mizoram was graced by Pu Lalchamliana, Hon’ble Home Minister, Govt of Mizoram, at the Arya Mess, PHQ, Khatla, in the presence of Pu Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, DGP Mizoram.
Earlier, the event had been inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram, Shri Hari Babu Kambhampati on 27.04.2023, with an aim to enhance the collaboration between the police and the general public,as well as to involve and encourage young minds to generate new and innovative ideas to address various challenges faced by the police.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble HM lauded #MizoramPolice and #NITMizoram for their efforts in organising the first ever ‘Hackathon’. He spoke about how the event would come to great use for the police with its immense potential for adaption. He encouraged the students to contribute and come forward with their ideas for betterment of society, in the years to come.
Pu Devesh Chandra Srivastva IPS praised the students for the innovative solutions proposed by them, while underlining the importance of going beyond traditional methods of policing. He highlighted the main policing challenges namely cyber crime, drug menace, traffic management, wildlife protection, crime against women and children, illegal smuggling etc and expressed his fervent hope that the Youth and Civil Society would significantly contribute in the fight against these menaces in our society. He also promised that it would be an annual event and exhorted students to day their internship, research, practical training with Mizoram Police.
Dr.Lalthanchami Sailo, Registrar, NIT spoke about the significance of the talks held by resource persons from national level organisations and termed the event a stupendous success. She expressed gratitude that the youth, or GenZ generation, have been introduced to the realm of policing, and it would encourage them to be warriors for truth and justice.
As many as 209 students from various NITs of all over India as well as Engineering students from educational institutions in Mizoram such as MZU, Govt Zirtiri Residential College, NIELIT and ICFAI participated in the HackVenture, which included a Cyber Security based quiz, Web development contest and an Idea pitching contest, whereby prizes were distributed to the winners at the Valedictory function today. The 3 day event also featured talks on important cyber related topics by Mr. Rushi Mehta- Senior Program Manager, National Cybercrime Ecosystem Management Unit, I4C, MHA, Mr. Aravind M R- Superintendent (Operations), NCB Headquarters, Mr. Prashun Gupta- Deputy Director (CCTNS-II) and Mr. Jayant Singh- Assistant Director (CIII), both of NCRB, Mr. Jiten Jain- Cyber Security Expert, and Mr. Pranit Patil- Software Architect, Cisco Systems.
