A complaint was received from one lady resident of Aizawl, stating that last month, one Instagram user Ebenezer Fanai sent her an obscene video and harassed her with vulgar and lascivious words. After repeated harassment, to uncover the identity of the miscreant, she asked for his phone number to have a Whatsapp video call with him. He provided his contact number. Cyber Crime PS ( CCPS) case u/s 292 (2) (a)/500/507 IPC r/w 67 IT Act 2000 r/w 3 Indecent Representation of Women Act, 1986 was registered.
During course of investigation, CDR analysis & IMEI search of suspect’s mobile number done, but to no avail. However, gleaning through his Social Media information, our cyber sleuths found out that the accused Ebenezer Z Fanai worked at one Private Security at Khatla, Aizawl and his real identity was found to be Vanlalhmingchhuanga (24) of Lungtian II, Lawngtlai District. Based on the new reliable lead found, a team of Cyber Crime PS proceeded to Lungtian village, Lawngtlai district and with the help of local police, arrested the accused and brought him to Aizawl. After sustained interrogation, the accused admitted to his crime and sent to Judicial Custody
