A complaint was received from a female resident of Lunglei District stating that a Facebook user named ‘Khawlhring Lalpa’ had posted a photo of the complainant in various Facebook groups. The caption accompanying the photo suggested that she was available for amoral favors. As a result, Cyber Crime PS (CCPS) Case No.15-23, dated 03.04.2023, was registered under U/S 509 IPC r/w 67 of IT Act. After technical analysis, meticulous follow up and thorough online investigation, suspected phone number was identified. Our #CyberCops dug further deep into the matter as there was not much clue thereafter. The public help was also sought. Finally, the CCPS team zeroed down and arrested the accused, Zothanmawia (23) of Chengpui Village, yesterday.
The mobile phone used by the accused was meticulously analyzed, and his browsing history was checked. It was confirmed that the Facebook account used for posting the sexually explicit material was still logged in on his mobile. Further investigation is currently in progress.
